Tool #11 Reflections

Skype and Storytelling were my favorite tools. I will let my students communicate with other students from other classes, schools, cities, countries so they can find out about their customs, foods, etc. I will also let my students use their imaginations and create their own stories.

The world is becoming very technological and so will my students. It is the wave of the future and my students will be right up there. Technology is very useful and I will use it to the fullest to enhance my students education.

I was surprised at how easy some of the tools were to use. This made me very happy because this means my students will be able to learn this tools with ease.

Tool #11

I would want my students to understand that good digital citizenship means being responsible for what you post and what you respond, being courteous to people who post comments on your blog and always being safe by this I mean that they should not respond or give and type of information to people they do not know.

I would teach this during Social Studies time since our curriculum lends itself for us to teach and discuss good citizenship. I would tie it in with being a good citizen in this world.

Tool #7

I am very sad to say that I was unable to complete this tool. I tried downloading it and it would not work. I was very excited because this tool seemed like it would be something that the students would get a lot of and enjoy. I will try to do this once we are back at work. I hope to have better luck once can connect my laptop to my docking station.

Tool #10

There are so many free educational applications that the students can utilize for example: to learn how to read maps and cardinal points they could use Google Earth. They can learn to read and spell through playing Hangman.

My students could utilize the iTouch or iPad to learn content through technology. They have games that help them learn how to spell, the state capitals and create figures with tangrams. It will be so awesome for the students because they will be having so much fun they will not even realize they are learning.

Tool #9

Jing is something that students would love. They would be able to communicate with students from other classes. They could actually see each other. One way that I would use JING in my classroom would be to have students from upper grades mentor/tutor some of my students.

I would utilize Skype by arranging authors read and discuss their stories with my students. We also have a unit in Social Studies around the world so I would allow my students to communicate with students from other countries. This way they can ask whatever they want to know about from that country. My class could share the projects we do in class with students from the district, the state, the nation, or the world and viceversa.

Tool #8

Como los niƱos aprenden a leer y a escribir

Teachers can view this video to learn new strategies and gain new ideas how children learn to read and write.

Jorge El curiouso

Children may view this video and then write about how Curious George is feeling or about his character traits. Children can also write a summary of the movie, create a new beginning, middle or end to this movie.

Tool #6

Wikis is a great way to have a class project going on. You can use it as a center for continuing a story, poem or discussion about one of our great American heroes. Students can also edit each others writing and explain why they did the editing. Teachers will be able to see the students thinking process. Our team members can use Wikis to discuss field trips, book studies, and possibly lesson plans.
